The work has paid off, I really enjoyed the Sons of Admirals song and I'm sure I'm not the only one. The video made me laugh too. Also, being a nerd isn't something you should be ashamed of, Charlie. Video games rock. and shooting goombas with star bits and running on dinosaurs is an important part of life. And yeah, I totally just said that. good videos ^^

I'm a 22 year old girl and I still love my super nintendo (and super mario cart is my favourite!). I'm not buying any of the new stuff tough. Maybe I'll have a Wii once I graduate and have the money for it. Anyway, we are a new generation that will grow old eating cornflakes for breakfast and playing videogames. There is nothing wrong with that.

I haven't tried Super Mario Galaxy (1 or 2) yet, but I've heard good things. I do have New Super Mario Bros for Wii, though. It's a little on the easy side, but fun nonetheless. :-)

Stop apologizing for this video! Really! You've said you're sorry like 8 times now, and it's getting irritating. There was nothing inherently bad about this video. Not one single thing.

Also, (not sure the best place to write this) I challenge you to do an entire video in an American accent. I think someone may have suggested it before, but it was a comment on a much older video, so I doubt you saw it. I think it's safe to say most people (especially your American fangirls) would be highly amused by 3 minutes of you speaking in an American accent.

I love computer games, but I tend to now keep away from them because they have the habit of taking over your life. Well, mine anyway, you might be different… But yeah, I used to play them all the time, especially fantasy RPGs. Really… I had no clue that you actually did play video games, especially things like Mario… It makes you a bit different, which is good, because different people are usually awesome!!!

Charlie, have you ever played any of the sims games? I own the Sims 1 and all its expansion packs, Sims 2 and some expansion packs, and Sims 3 with the first expansion pack. I was just wondering if you play it or if you're one of the mean people who makes fun of Sims (like some of my friends and most people at school :-( )

Oh I miss video gaming. I haven't brought a new game for my DS in ages…
I've found it is one of the more absorbing, most time consuming and most satisfying past times i've ever had.
I need to complete Zelda: Spirit Tracks. And the second Professor Layton (:O it's got so bad I can't even remember the title!) Damn exams/GCSEs/Future.

I don't dislike video games… I wouldn't mind, really, but I've just never had the chance to get into them. It's not only due to the fact that my parents never approved of the activity or funded the purchasing of consoles (up until last year, the only consoles my brothers had were a super nintendo and a Sega Dreamcast… the eldest one bought an XBox 360 finally), but I'm also very intimidated by the size of the already existing fandoms. For instance, games like Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy, so many people are huge fans, and I just feel like I have so much to catch up with, it's overwhelming, I wouldn't know what I'd be getting myself into…

Oh, I don't know about Super Mario Galaxy 2, but the best Wii game so far, for me, it's Super Mario Kart! I mean how awesome is that? Bouncing from a mushroom to another, plus it's so easy that a not-so-video-game-nerd can enjoy and even win few races ;)

I'm a girl and almost 18 but still love playing VideoGames.Recently I'm stuck with the Latest Final Fantasy (XIII). I personally prefer Playstation Games like Spyro, kingdomHeartsI,II, all FF's the devil may cry. But I hate video ggames with a main point killing an enemy soldier it's mostly on pc's , I used to go to a internet cafe with my ex boyfriend and all he and his friends wanted to play was this stupid Gun's shooting(lol though that's not the reason I broke up with him). And you're right the storyline of VideoGames can be many times much better than films.So I don't understand why people think VideoGames are childish or just for nerds.I don't think that there is a time when you stop being a child and become an adult.when I like something I don't look if it's considered as childish or nerdish I just do it until I get bored or not.It's completely subjective. I'm a video gamer, I have been since 4th grade when my dad first introduced me to a few different games from Doom to a fun cheesy game about two people running around an area killing guys in the dark that i forgot the name of and some fun little kid games like first grade activities. Ever since fourth grade I've played games of all sorts: from adventure to puzzle to logic to action to online role play to interactive games to video games that I can't even categorize.
Out of every one of the video games I have played I have a memory about that game. Whether it be with myself just sitting on my bed killing time but having fun by playing mariokart wii or by playing super metroid for hours on end. Video games are only boring and stupid and pointless to the people that have not found the right game for them. As you said, every person has their own preference as to what they like to play or what they like in general, so if someone isn't logical and hates killing and just wants to sit down and have fun then try the wii sports game disc that comes with the Wii, or try WiiPlay.
As for Galaxy, I have 1 and I wish I had 2 but I don't have the time to play much video games now that college is coming up. For Super Mario Galaxy 1 I wish that they chopped off a third of the levels that they had and made the game progressively harder, as many games are. Only have it so hard that two-thirds of the way through you should be dieing enough times that you put the controller down, but pick it back up and try again. Then, with knowledge of how to do it right you can beat it, oh and have an insanely hard but thrilling and fun boss battle in the end.
I believe that video games do use up a lot of time, but if you use that time wisely then the experiences that you'll have will be memorable. I know for certain that I've played a handful of games with my friends and by myself that I will never, ever forget.

Your unplanned vlogs are way better than my unplanned vlogs (maybe its that you have better lighting and a nice Mac in the background for people to stare at, and that your room is way cleaner). Don't worry about it.
Now I want Galaxy 2. I got about halfway through the first one and then sort of…stopped. Not sure why.

A 20 year old girl who spends a fair bit of her free time playing video games. My parents play them too, my dad doesn't get much time anymore but my mum's playing Farcry 2 at the moment when she's not working. And yes, I'm one of those people who enjoy shooting people in the head, playing Call of Duty and all that.
Although I've played them for years, since I was about 11. Instead of playing Mario Kart, like most normal kids, I played Shadow Warrior or Half Life. :3

I haven't actually come across many girls who enjoy playing COD and first person shooters, and most guys seem surprised that I play them… But they're fun.

Shame you couldn't have gone to E3 this year, it sounds like it was a blast, with the 3DS and all that. But these new 'exciting prospects' sound interesting xD

I know what you mean. My neighbor and best friend since I was in kindergarden was introduced to video games by his mom and ever since PS1 the family has played Final Fantasy games, nonstop. To me I like to talk about the story line and know what's going on because its a story that we can talk about apart from reality, which is why some, possibly most people get into video games.
You don't need to buy a whole console to start playing video games, you can take what you like to do, for example sports or your personality. Then try to find a game that matches with something about you. You have a computer, so check out some computer games, or whatever you wish, so long as you have the time.

I've never been a big first person shooter. I love real time strategy games. I'm a bit addicted to Wii Fit, Wii Sports and Just Dance. I'm a big nerd, I loved Galaxy 1 but I haven't gotten Galaxy 2 yet.

Well, I will probably buy Super Mario Galaxy 2 -big fan of Mario since I was born, indeed I've had lots of Mario games (except the sports ones). Nice to see more and more people to defend video games, which, I think, is a good way to relax or even to learn things ( think about games like Professor Layton (Guy, if you don't have it, you should at least try it : one of the best video games saga I ever played with).

By the way, what kind of games do you like, except platform games ? I must admit I like RPG, especially tactical-RPG (Fire Emblem, released on GBA, is one of my favourite), but also adventure games like Zelda, or Monster Hunter Tri. Well, actually they're very different, but… anyway, good job as always ! Too bad you couldn't go to E3 this year =x But I guess you have good reasons ^^

I loved the rant haha. It annoys me when people say they hate video games too. I get the feeling they just say that so they don't sound geeky half the time, even though I don't see why that's something to be ashamed of in the first place…
I'm a lot more into Xbox games then Wii games though, probably 'cause using a Wii means you have to flail your arms about and it's almost like exercise :P

I've owned my XBOX 360 for about two years now, and am considering getting the Wii. I'm kind of waiting for birthday money first, because I can't really justify shelling out $200 + $50/game yet. Also, I'm not sure that it's a good investment…

Anyone have any thoughts?

P.S. Super Mario World for the SNES is still my favorite video game. Ahh, how I <3 that game.

i played that game it's really fun exept my little cousin brother was screaming at me for not letting him play because he said i can play for 5 minutes and ended up playing for an hour so yeah but on the bright side because my mum saw i liked it so much she baught me a copy so yay -_-

I have to say that I don't really like about playing a video games but there is some games that I play. Example Singstar is very good game even if you couldn't sing well and with your friends it's just more fun to play : ) And I also like those wii games where you can play tennis, golf, boxing etc.

But I think that my Super Mario and Diddy Kong racing days are end. Those where my favorite games when I was a child but now those don't give me that joy what them use to give.

And it's okay that you still play video games. My father is 43 years old and he still play video games, so maybe it's some kind of boys thing :'D

First I'll admit: I love all Mario games too. Not just on the Wii, everything. (Mario Kart is still my favourite.)
But I don't think you really can compare music with videogames. I'm sure 'the world of videogames is massive', as you said, but it can't possibly be as massive as the world of music. Music is much older. Every single person on this planet has a favourite kind of music. Some may listen to it more than others, but they all like some kind of music. You are right about that.
But it's not the same with videogames. My mother, for example, doesn't even know how to hold a joystick. She was born before videogames were invented.
It's not the same. I can imagine that there are people who don't like any kind of videogames. Like adults.
So I don't agree on you, this time.

There are far worse things out there in the world to be obsessed with, so GOOD CHOICE with video games. Personally I like a good RPG game (so obviously Final Fantasy), but I feel that on a general note, you did a splendid job at defending video gamers worldwide against the boring commoners who prefer “reality” ^_^

Oh my goodness, video games is something I can RAVE about. Let me just say, I love video games. I subscribe to Game Informer and Nintendo Power because I love getting the news. About Super Mario Galaxy 2–of course I heard it was wonderful and I WAS going to get it. However, I read a directors interview and he said that if you never played the first one then the 2nd one is going to be difficult. So I never got it, but I'm sure it's fantastic! As for E3, I just watched the video about it recently and it made me SO EXCITED. All of the great new games coming out soon!!! I am definitely buying Zelda Skyward Sword. I pretty much wanted to buy all the other games they announced as well. Video games are great and I love them. I especially love the Wii.

1. I hated video games until I first played Pokemon Silver for the Gameboy Color when I was about six. I was in love. And then I played Mario, and then Wario, and then Kingdom Hearts, and then Final Fantasy, and then more Mario, and then more Pokemon. Oh la, I have such a history. I am now 16.
2. My friend hates video games, except she has a guilty pleasure for Grand Theft Auto.
3. My little brother is playing Call of Duty right now. He's eleven.

Charlie, there's no need to apologize for rambling about video games. It doesn't matter that you didn't plan this one out. We love watching you for YOU, or at least I do, and I don't think I'm alone in that. Also, I love video games as well, and the same kind as you from the sound of it. I've always classified myself as a “Nintendo Girl.” The Paper Mario games are my favorite (because I've actually beaten them, while I'm maybe halfway through the first Mario Galaxy). I'm not into the bloody, violent games either or (from my weaker side) games with, errr, scary monsters. Ok, so I’m 17 and should have gotten over that years ago, but I'm working through it slowly (with the help of extensive therapy- no, not really), so maybe one day soon I can get farther than the first 5 minutes of a Zelda.

I'm an old fashioned Game Cube fangirl =] I particularly like MarioKart Double Dash, Monkey Ball, and The Series of Unfortunate Events movie game (it was the only one I could ever beat!). My brother has a PS2 and an XBOX and he likes playing star wars and LOTR a lot… oh, and Beatles Rock Band is one of his favorites too, but I never got into that one… I just use his XBOX to watch Netflix xD If I'm ever in the mood for some serious gaming, I head back to the Game Cube! m/(>_<)m/

i dont think anyone can really “hate” video games. thats to strong of a word. they might just not like them. i dont play video games often, mostly because i am terrible at them, but when i do play i usually play my old fashion nintendo, were i play the origenal version of duck hunt ( I love that game) or the origenal version of mario kart, whick i am actually very good at and sometimes donky kong, whisch i am terrible at but i still love to play it. I do play the Wii alot as well. my brother just recently tried to teach me how to play zelda which i enjoyed, but alot of the time i had to get him to help me pass the levels after failing miserably over and over again. like i said i do play them but i am terrible at them. lol. but guitar hero world tour Wii, is definatly one of my favorit wii games. i can sit around playing it for ages and i love the fact that im one of the few in my family who can play the drums quite well. :D.

I've never been interested in video games in general. I just think they're boring and don't really understand what's so appealing about them. I do like Guitar Hero, but I don't have it so I just occasionally play it at my friend's house. I played Wii Sports for about a week after we first got the Wii before I got bored of it ;)

It's really true what you said though. (about there being video games for everyone) And at least you like awesome video games that people understand why you would like them! When you play boring games such as Harvest Moon and the Sims (like I do) people tend to think you're much much weirder. XDDD

Computer games have evolved into “how many alians can i kill in call of duty” and its just a bummer. When I think of computer games i think Mario, and then Nintendo because well the Wii is pretty cool and the games aren't all death games. Plus there's the awesome one for Harry Potter in witch (haha witch like…you know wizards but females…yeah that was bad sorry) you get to use the controller as a wand. that's just amazing.

I haven't gotten mario galaxy 2 yet, and I did really like the first one even though yeah it was a bit easy, but Twilight Princess will I think still be the best game on the wii. It seems almost impossible to me for a mario game to beat a zelda game, though I love them both. Super Paper Mario was awesome as well.

I never really got into video games.
Mainly because I never got a gaming system aside from a computer and by the time I was actually getting money, well, I'd rather spend it on other things.
However, I am in love with all of the CSI computer games because I'm just amazingly awesome like that.
But I'd much rather spend my time reading books, especially Harry Potter and the trilogy by the late Stieg Larsson.

I don't have a problem with video games though.
However, I think it's funny that some of my 40 year old 'uncles' still play them.

And, btw, being nerdy totally owns.

You were right in saying that the people that watch your videos are a bit like yourself!

I agree that video games are more immersive than films, because of the interaction. And there is definitely a title out there to suit anyones taste. Even if you had the biggest loathing of games EVER, you will always like having a go at Wii sports resort 100-pin bowling!! War-shooters and high-violence games are only one genre of a massive amount of games out there.

And for anyone thats skeptical of the impact games have on there social lives, I think Charlie is proof that you can still have a personality, friends and a life even if you have an interest in games!

P.S I'm on about 60 stars ;) SMG2 is definitely the better of the Galaxy titles.

I agree about the whole people saying they HATE video games. It *is* saying you hate movies or music. I'm not very up-to-date with video games. I enjoy the old school Bubble Bobble, NES, and all that jazz. I do like to play Mario Kart on the GameCube. (see? I'm really not up-to-date) So yeah. And I totally fist pumped you. :D

I also find the Mario Galaxy game series quiet amazing. Actually, I find them the “shin-dig” of all games for wii. I just started playing it and adore the ginormous purple luma. I forgot his name, but he's killer. I probably shouldn't start playing it again since last time I couldn't stop ._. I literally played Mario Galaxy 1 til' it was finished. I finished it in about 2-3 days. It still amazes me how I play video games so much, even though I'm a girl. Yes, I know I can be quite a Dork, but I'm embracing it happily :)

I once conversed with a Liverpoolian (?) who told me that the London and York accents were our New Jersey and New York accents. I've yet to really understand the difference in British accents though. You should do a vlog on that–for us uninformed Americans.
To be a little more on topic: video games! Some of my best friendships were formed over the discovery of a mutual Zelda obsession. And then when those friends moved on, Link was still around with his ocarina. So I mean, if that doesn't sound pathetic, well, well. I just don't even know. If your friend Eric really said he “hates” video games, I think he misspoke (surprising in a writer!). He should have simply said he “doesn't care for” them or “has no interest” in them.

Same with me. Though in my case such an attitude comes from having done something similar–i.e., play at pinball machines (which might be a kind of precursor to today's video games)–when I was in my twenties. I simply found better things to do and in which to 'immerse' myself. I bet you will too.

i love videogames, in fact when i was a kid i ask to my mom for a shiel and a sword, and he make me ones with some wood or something else and i was the happiest kid on the world trying to be link from the legend of zelda ocarina of time. seriously i love videogames like mario,metal gear, zelda, and a bunch of others. some of my friends doesnt take part of videogames ( at least they play pes or winning eleven) but i enjoy the videogames as a kid( im 18 years old)!

I really can't tell you how I feel about it, because I'm still speechless :)

Ahhh… video games. I've never owned a game consul (gasp! + sp?) so I relied mostly on computer games, of which to this day I prefer. My cup of tea were SNES games that I played with an emulator. I would completely suggest Chrono Trigger, Seiken Densetsu 3, and Final Fantasy 3 or 6 (American release and then Japan release number).

Chrono Trigger is an excellent, EXCELLENT game, not to mention that when you replay the game you can keep all of your stats and items, so if you have no life after hours and hours you can level up your characters to level “star star”. I adore gold stars to the point where I MUST have a complex, so that was a huge win for me. Anywhoo, great characters (some optional), the best video game music I've ever heard, no random encounters (thank god), and 10 different endings.

SD3: You choose 3 out of 6 players at the beginning of the game and throughout the game the different characters weave together into a story. Great game, the fighting is fun since it's not random encounter, you just smash the A key until the goblins go boom. Cool storyline, and well, overall cool.

FF3: In my opinion, the BEST of all of the Final Fantasies. Includes Mog (best character ever) and the evil Kefta. It's the longest game ever, to the point of sheer hilarity. Slight spoiler: you think it's the end of the game, the world ends, and you've only reached the halfway mark : Anyway, it's awesome and an essential game for any self proclaimed nerd.

Of course, all these games require emulators, but the games themselves are so old I believe that they're legal because the copyright ran out eons ago.

Video games were everything I did when I was sick. I honestly woke up played Super Mario Galaxy 1 until I had to go to bed since I'm the kind of sick person that is insane and thinks that video games will cure me or something.

anyways, i don't really like mario-type video games unless i am really in the mood…i like call of duty and half life 2 because they are more realistic and i can get more immersed in them. plus, there is more thinking involved, because usually with those games you (at least sometimes) have to form complicated strategies to succeed. i have mariokart on my ds and i thought it was charming (i love yoshi). but, sadly, it lacked that feeling of sweet success for me.

First of all, I don't hate video games. Sometimes when I'm sick and have to stay at home, I find my self on my brothers room playing Call of Duty. And you are right, video games are like music and movies. An interest. What I do hate, are when people spend the whole day (and night) playing and playing and playing. I mean, of course you should play video games if you like it, but don't forget your friends, family and social activities.

For my brother is video games his world. And I can't understand that.. Why someone choose to put away all the fun with other people and rather sit alone on their rooms and look at a screen..

I saw a fan page on Facebook that said “I wonder if British people sit around trying to talk in an American accent.” Do you? Sort of a weird question, but I was wondering. :) We just recently bought the Wii system and my little brother's favorite is Super Mario Galaxy 2 by far. It's so sad when he dies though because he gets all upset as if he really did die in real life. I think my favorite game, right now, is either WiiFit or Mario Kart.

Personally, I try to stay away from video games. I will admit that they are fun, but they suck you in so deep sometimes… I know from watching my brother and friends that you can really lose track of time. Once they start a game, they just want to play it through to the end, lose track of time, and end up finishing a game in its entirety after only a day. I figure there are much better ways of using your time. And though I will admit that I am both a movie and music junky, I'm usually doing more than just that one thing at a time, whereas with video/computer games, that is the only thing you can really do at once with all that hand eye coordination jazz

My boys have just got this and love it not sure how many stars they have so far. As a mum I can see all sorts of benefits from these types of games. Grown ups are always saying kids can not concentrate rubbish my boys spend loads of time playing these types of games. I love to watch them as a they work together solving problems that crop up and helping each other with suggestions. It is the same with everything thing in life there is always something to be gained from everything we do, say listen too, watch or get involved with. It is all about how you look at life.

I don't find much enjoyment out of any violent games with guns and knives… I like the nicer ones, such as Harvest Moon, where you plant crops and get married, or Rhythm Heaven (<–SUCH a great game for music lovers or percussionists). Any Mario games are good too, although my favorite will always be Luigi's Mansion. I also like the storylines and music of Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy. There should be a Dr. Horrible video game… ;)

I'm 32, female, and have just bought an Xbox 360. If that's nerdy or immature, so be it– I've played video games my entire life (mainly on the computer) and have no plans to stop. Like you I'm not especially into the first person shooters, but Red Dead Redemption is rocking my socks at the moment. My nieces have a Wii and they have really enjoyed Super Mario Galaxy 1. I'm not sure if they have 2 yet, but if they don't I'll be sure and get it for them. If you care to vlog more about video games you'll have no complaints from me!

Omigosh Charlie! Ok, I had to watch this video twice before I actually understood what you were saying – video games are awesome? I beg to differ! (I know I'm going to get a lot of hate from this :( but it must be said)

First of all, thank you for saying you don't enjoy playing COD much, because that game is gruesomely violent! Wow I sound so much like a ranting parent here (I'm not, I'm still a teenage student!), but seriously; my brothers play it, and it really scares me how easily they can become bloodthirsty, and not even feel any sympathy for the people they shoot in those games!

Of course, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is not violent (I hope), so I approve there. Plus, some games help to develop your reflexes and brain. I like the Wii :) That is actually very interesting. With the new Sony 3D TV out too, playing video games will become a much more cooler experience.

It's just those awful war games that really annoy me. Plus, video games are incredibly addictive. I've seen my brothers play on those games like their eyes are glued to the screen – if you call them, they won't even respond. They become these eerie zombies. *shudder*

If you can balance playing time with the rest of your life, Ok, video games can be pretty good. But never awesome.

PS. I'm sorry Charlie (or anyone out there) who feels overwhelmed by my argument. You clearly just wanted a little ramble and I got the wrong end of the stick. But it had to be said.

The commenting function is here for a reason, so there's no point in apologizing for sharing your opinion on the topic raised. Not that I know Charlie in anyway other than how he is portrayed in his videos, but I'm sure if he had more comments like this he'd be pleased… it just means that people were actually thinking about what he was talking about in his video.

I dislike war games, but violent games I think are okay. People say that arguing and the like is a good/healthy way of relieving yourself, I've also heard that people who play violent games are less likely to be violent in real life since the violent and competitive part of them was fulfilled whilst playing the violent games etc.

However, a few days before this video was put up my dad wanted to come and see his war game, partly to see the graphics, partly because he wanted to show off his skillz. It got me thinking though, people make a big deal about wars and how we have to respect who died etc but more often than not, these war games are based off of real war scenarios… I wouldn't say that that was very respectful of the real situation – especially since these games often let the player decide what country (or whatever) they want to be apart of within the game. This just feels weird, thought this is just my opinion. That and first person shooting games are really weird to control… ^_^

People only become mindless when fully immersed in the game and it's story/action, this happens with most video games, but then this also happens when people watch TV, films and read. I've also heard that repetitive games like the Sims can have a similar effect on a person that meditation has, though this could just be a rumour.

I also agree that people should also make sure to live their lives and stay healthy (not that I have much room to talk). If you think about it, games are often expensive so if someone plays a game that last 15 hours right through in one sitting, then they are just going to want to go out and buy another really expensive game sooner; whereas, if you make a game last, then there wouldn't be need for another game 'till this one is finished – though this is easier said than done… ^-^'

The games that a really hardcore gamer needs to be careful of are MMORPGs like World of Warcraft, it's very easy to sit there for hours and never get bored. Luckily for me, I know when to stop. :3

My god Charlie, you need to expand your gaming to things other then mainstream sequels. Forgive me, but the statement “Super Mario Galaxy 2 is by far my favorite video game on the wii, just hurts my feelings. :c

Just kidding, your taste in video games is not what my life revolves around. :D But since I'm automatically assuming you're a fan of Zelda, (most people are) I would recommend you play a amazing (and I cannot emphasize that enough) game called Okami. Now I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't heard the name before, but it is fantastic. I don't really want to talk much about it, but I think you will find yourself in love with it.

You seem to play video games often? Or at least you seem to have a lot of knowledge about them! I don't completely dislike video games. As I said before, games can help develop your reflexes and brain, so they're not all bad.

However, I will never be able to understand the point of having violent games or war games. I have to disagree with you on the part that violent games are 'okay'. Sure, they may help relieve violent people of anger/stress, but there are other ways of releasing stress, for example through exercise, counselling, or just talking to people. I believe that violence, through these types of games, is encouraged, and therefore playing violent games encourages the user to be violent, rather than relieving them of violence. Violent people can find other ways to improve their behaviour, and don't need to resort to playing violent games. Its just unnecessary. (Well, not for the people creating the games, they need to keep producing games for money. Obviously.)

War games are just as bad. COD – why is it so popular? The whole point of the game is to complete missions by murdering thousands of people without compassion or mercy – like mindless animals. Its just sickening. War is bad itself, we don't need people playing games about it too!

The worst thing about it all is that children play these types of games now from a young age. Sure, there are age limits and warnings printed clearly on the games, but parents tend to neglect these, especially if they are rated 15 or 18 (not sure about American equivalents :s), because they just want their kids to be happy. Through peer pressure and influence of elders (either siblings or even parents), children think its 'cool' to play violent games, which encourage them to be violent in real life.

You're right about the expense of games. New games tend to cost at least £30 ($40?), and as games are so addictive, people can finish them pretty quickly and then want the newest game asap. The result? Games companies get rich.

I like the thought that you can actually control how long you play for for yourself – 'luckily for me I know when to stop'. There's so few gamers who can do that nowadays :/

Yes, I do play my share of video games… though I wouldn't say I was a brilliant gamer, that's probably why I “know” when to stop. ^_^'

I agree with you on war games totally, since to me, they seem kinda disrespectful… not that I agree with wars anyway but it doesn't mean I'm okay with any disrespect towards past wars. That and they almost seem to be advertising wars as being fun, I mean that's what people play the games for. But then again, even before war games and violent video games, kids would still play fight or pretend to be in a war zone and such – though at least in this circumstance, the kids are forced to use their imagination and even then, what they come up with probably wouldn't be as gruesome as some of the things shown in these games.

However, for some games' storylines to work there would need to be some violence; like in Fable where you play as a “hero”, the storyline wouldn't work if there was no killing involved. I suppose the same could be said for films or TV as well, if an action film had no fighting or whatever, then it wouldn't really be an action film – the story itself could balance the violence out. On saying this, people should take age restrictions a little more seriously at least.

World of Goo rocks! Though I've gotten stuck, so I haven't played in yonks. Seriously, World of goo is one of the hardest games, and I have played my share. D:

I have a mind set that americans do not have accents unless theyre like from boston… or are very ghetto… and some of us say words strangley but you know, nobody talked the way americans do until well honestly, not very long ago! We all had different accents from different countries and now we have this sort of every accent but we speak english so i dont knoooowwww. But hey! I love Mario games too :) Well, i like alot of video games but im like you, im not much of an xbox person or play station person, i like the innosence of nintendo :]

Video games are a thing of my past. Now, I'm not saying that I have grown up, I still play them but not as much.. like FFVII, X, XII, and XIII. And there's a lot of games like super mario galaxy 2 that I have for the wii. I own the PS I, PS II, PS III and PSP (not to brag or anything lol).

What I'm saying is that it's summer and you need to put those games away. Go outside and enjoy the weather! Have fun in the sun^^

I feel like I need to defend myself now. I dislike video games, not because of anything like them being a waste of time/money but because I CAN'T PLAY THEM. (So maybe it isn't a dislike more a resentment towards people who can play video games)
Trust me I've tried to learn how to but something in brain and my fingers are not connected when I need them to be and then I just panic. (I was gonna say I can't move my fingers independently whilst focusing on a screen but obv I figured I'm doing that now with now with no great problem.)
I've spent hours in my flatmate's room whilst him and my other flatmate's played X-box and I can see the pull of games and why people play them and I wish I could play without looking like a complete idiot.
The only time I played with them was when they were playing COD and needed a extra to fill in as some one left… I spent most of the time stuck in a corner unable to figure how to get out, until one of my friends found me and mercifully killed me. Ever since that if I ever asked if I could play I just got the reply: 'Becky, No. You know it's for the best', nice and patronising eh?
This lack of skill Video games wise might be to do with the fact when I was a kid my best friend's favourite thing to do was to put me on a random game on the PS1 and just kill me repeatedly just cause I hadn't a clue what do. I have no clue why he did this maybe it gave him an ego boost but I will ask him.
Anyways I will stop ranting!!

hey i toltally agree with you on video games! have you ever played kingdom hearts? thats like my obsession recently…its a really good game with square soft and disney…they have final fantasy characters and mickey mouse and then their own kingdom hearrts characters. its really fun and i recommend it!

i completed super mario galaxy twice with mario and luigi and i bought super mario galaxy 2 but i havent completed it yet…im such a nerd…

The only Wii games I’ve bought are Cooking Mama and Harvest Moon….
The Mario/Sonic games are just…too expensive for me T.T

My Wii games are: All of the Harvest moon(: Mario games, Tales of Symphonia, Rune Factory, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Dokapon Kingdom, Animal Crossing and a lot more <3 Also I have a Gamecube and so many more sonic, zelda and mario games for that(: And the only computer games I have are like the Sims because I love those games :D haha.

i don’t mind video games that much but i do find that i completely lose track of time playing them. they are so addicting. i guess thats a reason against video games. i still like them, i just don’t play that often.
