It'd be cool if you stuck to vlogging, but then added in skits in between what you're saying for emphasis. Its hard to describe, kind of like what shane dawson does. For example, if you're talking about something you hate doing, then segway into a skit about it. I dunno. I'd def. like to see more of your directing, the concept of the music video was really cool and you used a ton of camera angles which is always good. hoorah! (:

I love the song and the video! Unfortunately, my internet hates me tonight- iTunes wouldn't open to buy the song (although I think that may have something to do with me living in the US) and YouTube wouldn't let me post a comment on the video saying that I loved it. When I commented a minute ago, I completely forgot to answer your questions.
1. Love the video, the directing/acting is great and it fits the song nicely.
2. I think some skits and whatever with storylines would be interesting, as long as you don't stop vlogging entirely. You're clearly good at directing, so whatever you choose to do most likely won't be terrible.
3. I didn't even notice how flat Alex's head was at first… but wow, did he walk around with heavy books on it as a child or something? Cuz that can't be natural.

I saw the hair-picture line up :) Great work Charlie, I love it. I beleive that Director Charlie is a very good role for you, though I do love still love your vlogging :) Oh and thanks to you and Alex for introducing me to The Vlog Brothers! I'm happy to say I'm now a Nerd Fighter!

I quite like it. I honestly don't think it looks THAT amateur, but what do I know? I'm very amateur at this matter. And his flat head is abnormal, I noticed. It would be cool if you did more of the Director Charlie, I think it it suits you.

I would love to see story-ish type director stuff on your channel, I think what you did here was really good. I do miss the not so fancy, random vlogs though.

I think it was a good video, especially when you are new at this. I really don’t like Alex’s music (sorry), but this was good. It is very good the house, not a lot of trash everywhere (like a normal house), but it is still liveable and not abnormal. Emma’s dress is very nice too, and it is good that Alex’s t-shirt stands to her dress. Well I have always thought Alex’s hair is very abnormal (sorry again Alex), but now when I see how flat and indeed abnormal his head is I understand why his hair is so strange… Poor Alex can’t stop looking at his head now.
It is so fun when you walk randomly in Alex’s videos and when you comment when he is vlogging.

The only issue I had was the split screen, I thought it kind of cheapened the video, and made it seem a little less professional. I saw a lot of the same sort of plot and message in the video as I did in that episode.

it was great! you should definitely direct some of your own videos…the more you do the more advanced you'll get….you'll be the next James Cameron by the end of it….making actors into freakishly tall blue alien people with tails living on a floating continent…..yeah i can see it now…or maybe you will make them purple ;-)

I love Alex's song, and the video definitely puts a nice twist on the lyrics. Love the Amy as the ex thing, really funny! This reminds me of a particular episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer actually, the one with Warren's robot girlfriend. The editing was really well done, and everything else too, but there is one part where you cross the line a little bit with Alex's eye-line and the Amy cutout, and then back to Emma's eye-line. Not really a big deal, only mentioning it since you asked for comments. Love it though!

Also, I think you have a great directing style, it would be cool to see stories you put together, but I love the vlogs as well.

First of all, this video was amazing! I didn't get bored at all watching it, and trust me, I have a very poor attention span. I would like you to do more directing stuff, like the duet with yourself and A Song About Love – those were simply fantastic! Ooo and story stuff is good too, as long as it has the cool frame switches or whatever they're called :) Anyways, good work Charlie. And never get rid of the vlogs because those are always the best!
Second, I think Alex's abnormally flat heat is interesting. It's intriguing to see how such a flat head operates. I'm actually a bit jealous.

I would love to see some directed videos, charlieissocoollike is a channel that is about you – and obviously directing is something you are both interested in and really good at. It's a win-win situation! :D Although, I hope you don't stop entirely with your vlogging, but adding directed videos seems to be the next step for you and your channel. :D

A great video, very interesting story line, the girl played brilliantly and so did Alex. AMAZING(as usual)!!!!!!

Nice video Charlie. We know that you can direct and edit well, because we have seen your videos. However, something very important and irreplaceable was missing from this video. If we dont count 2 seconds 3.08-3.10. That something is not meant to stay behind the camera, but infront of it in widescreen high-definition mode. I dont see anything bad about you doing more straight directing stuff for your own channel. But make sure that its you who is starring in those videos. Cause you got spark inside your eyes and we get lost inside your stare. If you are doubtful check what Stephan Fry said about you in carpool interview. ''Charlie has the secret of all great comedians, he is likeable''. If someone possesses that gift, he should not reject it, but make full use of it. That means staying in limelight and blow our socks off with your brilliant videos.

LOVED THE STORY .. it was a fun video, and let me say .. as u said an mature .. it was pretty good for a first time .. I've seen videos by media students who weren't this good .. so great job … AND THE FEMALE ACTOR WAS AMAZING … seriously she was so believable ! The only thing I did not like were the instrument used in the song most of the time .. i found it annoying .. other than that .. it was great … ! and actually I want to see more of you directing songs .. and then movies .. step by step ;) Good Luck !

Charlie, I think if directing is the direction you wish to go in, then you should pursue it more. What you did with Alex's video is great, the narrative went with the story well and it was also a bit of fun. Like you said, you are still an amateur and I think that with time you will become an awesome director.

That being said, if you do end up heading in the more directing/narrative direction, I think you should mix it with your vlogs. You are a very likeable person in front of and i'm sure behind the camera too, and I think a mix of the two would be brilliant. ^_^

But, I think you should do whatever you want to do with your videos, take the risks and see what happens :)

Oh and I'm harsher on myself when it comes to things I've done too. Not that I make videos but in other work, especially when it comes to my singing.

I prefer working behind the camera. I love the process of making the vision in my head come to the screen. then I love the editing and post production process… it wasnt bad. think more about the background.. it can be very distracting and take or add to the frame

I think it's great that you're trying new things, directing could be a great career path even so you should definately try to keep this up. It was really well done Charlie, plus high fives to that girl, she did a really good job!
I'd still love to see vlogs and Challenge Charlie's but its always good to try a variety of things!
Keep doing whatever makes you happy, but remember to update us from time to time!

This is a great video and it is something to be proud of!! I really like the song and the girl who played the robot did an amazing job. Seriously for a moment I thought she was fake. Anyway, I believe that you could do directing videos on your own channel as well, it will bring something new to it and it will give you more creative freedom. Though I think should throw in “yourself” in a video every once in awhile. I think people would miss your face if you were just behind the scenes all the time. I enjoyed it all. The girl performed the robot amazingly, the lyrics were great and the photography fantastic.

You should keep doing what you LIKE to do, and if you like this more, do it! =) Plus, if you possibly want to be a director, it can help you in the long run.

hey man just saw the video. i see that most of the comments here are by girls that wanna marry you. i think you deserve a more focused critic (if you actually care what your viewers think). yes the video is really amateur, but just like you said you are an amateur. i REALLY think (based of your other videos) that you are more creative than this. the whole concept was ok i guess but the video lacks of imagination. and imagination and creativeness is something you have by tons. i think by adding “1 second shots” of the robot, expressions, stuff like that would have feed the video alot more. by using long clips, dont know but gets a bit boring. but thats only my opinion mate dont take it the wrong way. byeeeee

I thought the video was amazing- so smart and creative story-wise, and excellent use of shot-framing, camera movement, and cuts. The only part that made me cringe was at 2:08 with the “I know, I know”s. I felt that was more of a background embellishment and think it would have been much less cheesy if Alex didn't bother singing along to them. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually Alex's idea to do so, since he has a tendancy to err on the side of cheese, but it's that same tendancy that produces much of what makes him so adorable.

The narrative itself is amusing if slightly odd, just the way I like it! very impressive :)

Well, I'm not into marrying you or Alex (as seen in some comments), still I do love Alex's music and I do love your vlogs. Tom sometimes adds something to Alex's music and I love that, too. That being said, I like this video a lot. It tells a nice little story, it's not boring at all. Emma is brilliant as a robot! I love how you visually did the assembling of the robot. Congratulations on finding an answer to Alex's question on what should he do with an Amy haha! And I love the irony of the robot (fake person) being jealous and angry at the cut out (faker person) lol!
I can't say anything worth of a critic really, I've never directed anything. I just know I like it. :) Congratulations (again) on making a vid that is not creepy in spite of the fact that a guy starting over with a robot is quite pathetic and a bit creepy. But the result is just light and funny. It's a fine line… and you've managed it.

You're a really creative person and it shows in any of the videos that you make, whether it be vlogs, directed videos, or even when you just sing in front of the camera. It's your creativity that keeps me so interested in your videos, and they turn out brilliantly, so thank you for continuing to share that creativity with your fans.

I really do like this video. There isn't a second where I lose interest. My favorite part in terms of directing is the beginning, when Alex is taking the robot out of her box. All of the cuts are timed precisely so that it looks like he is taking different parts from the box and putting them together. That part was excellent in terms of directing.

Dont get me wrong, I love the video + I think it looks really good and proffesional. But, at around 2:16-2:20, where you can see the amy standee you could have put her in the distance (to make her look a tad more real) + you could have put something by her legs to cover up the white.

hi random, but my family just got direct tv throughout our whole house and i was just browsing and flipping through and i saw that DOCTOR WHO was on! i have never seen a doctor who episode until today. my little sister and i both flipped out.

I thought it was brilliantly creative (I've actually read a graphic novel about a human-like robot boyfriend before so it was also a nostalgia trip). The piecing-together bit was my favorite– the shots were perfect.

I really liked this video (it does somewhat make up for your having abandoned us for two weeks)! I've always thought you would be a great director for the cinema (does anyone still use that word, i'm not sure)

I personally loved the video and I think you are amazingly gifted with directing and editting, Charlie.

The one thing that I didn't like was the music, it felt like while the singing and lyrics were good, that I was mainly listening to electrical spasms of music…. I don't quite know how to say what I mean, it just wasn't as fluid as most music usually is and the electrical sounding spasms threw me off…

I also thought that the bit where the robot was assembled was done very well, and for an amateur video this did come out very well :) I think that once your are more familiar with music video making and suchlike then you could try experimenting with your indoor lighting.

Uhm, Charlie, let me points out something, if I will. When Emma is crumpling up the picture of Alex and Amy Pond at 3:39, was it not muted on purpose? If it wasn't intentional, don't worry, it doesn't matter at all, I just kind of wondered. I'm sure a pretty large portion of the viewers had a laugh at 2:07, ah, since you directed it, did you come up with that idea yourself? And look, Charlie – I don't think we haven't seen you do something you weren't good at. Except drinking a whole bottle of ketchup. That was kind of fail. But we don't care. We love you.

One) I think it's great! I concur with the popular opinion that it's a good start, and that although it's a LITTLE amateur, it's still excellent, and we're all sure that you can get even more professional-looking videos if you keep at it, but we'll still love you regardless. Personally, I thought that the split-screens around two minutes in were more than a little cheesy, but the putting her together” scene was particularly well done.

Two) I don't think anyone here, least of all me, makes a secret of seeing you as witty eye candy with a nice voice, so I hope you still spend plenty of time in front of the camera, but there's no denying that you're talented off-screen too. I would love to see more of your directed works!

Two-B) I'm ambivalent. You've got a flair for the dramatic that translates well into story-focused pieces, but also a good sense of visual rhythm that works well with music videos. It would definitely be interested to see what you come up with if you try something with more of a story, though.

Three) You're right – The top of his head is remarkably square. How DOES he do it?

This was a great video, and I've showed it to like half my friends already. It was really unusual, in a good way. Robot vs Amy Pond cutout was awesome, and Emma was great.

Well, sorry for the long comment, but these are my thoughts right now…
First, I think it's a great idea to keep in touch with people, but I don't really see what kind of answers do you expect to get here from us? I mean, would you like to know something about the quality of the video? Well, as this website is visited mostly by fans, they may be a little biased and they will probably like anything you do or say or think – or direct. This, of course, may boost your self-confidence, but I'm not sure this is the (only) kind of feedback you'd like to get.
SO, here's what I think: you are smart enough not to put a real crappy vid on the internet, and I believe you do your best to make these vids enjoyable, which actually results in your videos being enjoyable. Congrats ;-)
BUT, if you happen to think about becoming a little less amateur, it'd be great to show your vids at a less biased forum. Real expectations and challenges may bring a lot more talent on the surface and I think it's worth a try. Keep goin' Charlie & take care :)

They weren’t trying to hide that the Amy is only cardboard. That’s what makes it funny. The robot girl is jealous of the cardboard girl, and Alex seems to care so much about the two of them, yet neither is even real.

The crumpling sound actually fits with the music perfectly.

Hey Charlie :D i thought the video was great :) i thought it was a cool idea, it was completely original, and would not have been the obvious choice of music video according to the song, but that just makes it more awesome :D i think you definitely have potential so just keep on going! Even as you said this may be 'amateur' then i think if you exercise your film making skills you could be amazing! but as i said great video and the girl playing the robot (Emma?) she was awesome :D great job to all three of you! :D

LOVE the concept and the whole robot idea. But maybe the actual filming/editing could have been better.

For an amateur though, that was brilliant!

yeah…. yes, I could say I liked it. The actress was great by the way, the song… I don't know, too much key-board stuff or what ever. The directing idea seems pretty great, your videos will be better with time and eventually you could post regullar videos in your channell. I was thinking, while I was reading the blog, how much I love loooove, A Song About Love and Duet With Myself. These two, is incredible how many times I can listen to them; so yes, please, keep on trying this new stuff.
Try to do videos in wich the story is not so narrative, you know what I mean? like, leave interpretation to our IMAGINATION ;)

This is rather adorable. So I can say that I like your directing. You can see some similarities with how you blog with the editing style, but I like it. So, yay!

I think the only think that could had been added is maybe a special effect of electric sparks or electricity flying around the body when she fell on the ground. Otehrwise, a very well done vodeo. Very much like the old classics that use to be on MTV.

I've seen most of your videos but I'd never seen a song about love before and I was definitely missing out, it's amazing! The lyrics are so true aswell and I would say your songs are better than most of the average pop songs produced :) Must've taken ages to put together but it was worth it with the result you got. So least but not last (:D) keep being amazing like you always are and please keep the hair red cos I love it!

I thought that it was really good. I loved the bit at the beginning where you were taking Emma out of the box setting her up. The part where you made her head turn around was awesome.
